Here are just a few of the fun happenings at the Phelan Library!

Friends of the Phelan Library: Volunteers meet to plan fundraisers. First Tuesday of the month from 5:30pm - 7pm

Special First-Year Birthday Celebration: Saturday, Aug. 21, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Crafts, games, refreshments, and appearances by Mother Goose and Dr. Seuss. Books with birthday themes, provided by the Friends of the Phelan Memorial Library, will be awarded to the first 100 children attending the party.

Phelan Phun Book Club: August 20 at 10am, they will discuss The Help by Kathryn Stockett, the story of three ordinary but extraordinary woman in 1962: 22-year-old Skeeter, has just returned home after graduating from Ole Miss.; Aibileen, a wise, regal black maid raising her seventeenth white child; Minny, Aibileen's best friend, said to be the sassiest woman in Mississippi.

“Mother Goose on the Loose”: Music, movement, visual literacy and language help children ages 0-3 prepare to read. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

“Tots’ Movin’ and Groovin’ Story Time”: for children ages 3-5. Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

“The Arts! The Crafts!” for children ages 5-12. First and third Tuesday of the month, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“Wags”: Children ages 3-1/2 to 12 read aloud to patient, trained therapy dogs. Second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

“The R.A.T. Pack”: “random arts for teens.” Second Wednesday of the month, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Expresso Yo’self: Teens share songs, poetry and jokes. Fourth Wednesday of the month from 4:30: p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

55+ Beginner Excel: for techies ages 55 and older. First and third Monday of the month from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Adult arts and crafts: second Monday of the month from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Crocheting Group: fourth Monday of the month from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
