Phelan Library Volunteers Honored

On April 7, the staff of the Phelan Memorial Library honored the library’s numerous volunteers.

According to Lisa Marie Garcia, branch manager, the staff chose Sandy Valdepena as volunteer of the year “because of her commitment to learning the volunteer tasks assigned to her and because she is very dependable. We can count on Sandy to do a job assigned to her with 100 percent effort.”

Garcia added that Valdepena “has a great smile and a sincere personality.”
Marianne Black, chair of the Phelan Friends of the Library’s fundraising committee, was chosen as the Friends’ volunteer of the year. “Marianne’s faith and belief in the PFOL members and their ability to expand their fundraising efforts made this group the ‘Little Engine That Could,’ ” Garcia said.

“Marianne was very instrumental in helping to coordinate the PFOL fundraising efforts that resulted in 30,000 for new books and materials.”
